C.A.S.H. themes drew interest at ITF Leipzig Summit 2012

C.A.S.H. Project took part in the International Transport Forum's (ITF) Summit 2012 held in Leipzig on 2-4 May. The Summit brought together ministers, industry leaders and top experts from the Forum's 54 member countries to engage in global dialogue on the future of transport and mobility. This year's theme of the Summit was "Seamless Transport: Making Connections".

The C.A.S.H. stand at the Summit contained information on project activities and results as well as publications. In addition, C.A.S.H. Project Director Professor Ojala spoke in one of the side sessions, organized by the World Bank, Turku School of Economics and International Transport Forum, discussing Logistics Performance Measurement.

The C.A.S.H: staff disseminated actively project's results. Since 2009, the C.A.S.H. has enhanced knowledge of working methods and created operational networks for police authorities. By the Sept 2012, the Project will have organized over 15 Joint Exercises which have brought together over 500 police authorities from the C.A.S.H. countries to exchange views e.g. on dangerous goods transport and cargo securing. In addition, the C.A.S.H. Project has aimed at harmonizing training contents for competent authorities and increasing understanding of driver behavior.

In the field of equipment testing, the C.A.S.H. Project has produced recommendations for procurement of equipment based on mutual testing and worked for better understanding of risk analysis in road freight safety work. The Project has also strived for better understanding of the impact of market structure on safety and security by publishing joint reports with the universities around the Baltic Sea. All these results will be displayed in the recommendations the Project Office is preparing later this year.

The Leipzig Summit was an excellent opportunity to disseminate the C.A.S.H. themes and results to wide range of participants. In addition, the Summit was a great platform to exchange views with policymakers and industry leaders, get C.A.S.H. thematic known in larger scale as well as make future contacts and discuss possible cooperation activities.
