Ecovillages - On EU strategy 2014 - 2020

"Ecovillages for sustainable rural development" project initiated a proposal for the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development Regulation on support for Rural development programme 2014 - 2020.

The main intention of the proposal is to adjust the Rural development programme in order to encourage ecovillages to start acting as training and research centres for sustainable development within wider society. Ecovillage cooperation with farmers, rural enterprises, social entrepreneurs, academia, policy makers and other actors of rural development will stimulate the implementation of new and retro-innovative natural agriculture systems, green building - using local, natural and cheap materials, the use of local renewable energy and biological wastewater treatment systems.

The proposal covers 8 measures of the new Rural development programme 2014 - 2020, which may help to implement projects or operations based on the knowledge and initiatives of the Ecovillage Movement. These measures are:

  • LEADER
  • Knowledge transfer and information actions
  • Advisory services, farm management and farm relief services"
  • Co-operation
  • Quality schemes for agricultural products and foodstuffs
  • Organic farming
  • Basic services and village renewal in rural areas
  • Farm and business development

Proposal firstly will be submitted to the European Economic and Social Committee as well as Committee of regions.
