The Baltic Sea Region (BSR) Programme 2007-2013 financed in total 90 transnational cooperation projects covering a wide scope of themes. In order to share the work done with you, the Programme has created this online basket of projects – a Fruit Basket if you will (formally called the Output Library).

The Fruit Basket may be used for diverse purposes. Longlife Report 3 is the follow up of Longlife 1 and 2 Reports. The virtual business incubator and matching platform “www.biiugi.eu” was created to bring together retired or semi-retired experts with those who need their help. It is meant as a meeting space for these groups and enables them to create project teams and use virtual support tools such as a file-management system, calendar and a live-chat function. Registration for the portal is free. The Portal is available in English, German and Polish versions and will stay operational at least until 2017, maintained by the Research Association Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

An infrastructure was created specifically for the innovations promotion in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through the establishment and development of the Baltic Sea Academy with 15 universities. For energy supply security, more attention should be paid on how to utilize the existing energy potential in biodegradable waste. Sustainable biogas CHP and biomethane production was studied with regional modeling in North Savo region which showed that only two biogas plants would be enough to handle biodegradable waste. House hold biowaste should be separately collected also in rural areas. The utilization of manures and spoilt crops for farm scale biogas production should be subsidized. Waste and energy companies could co-operate in more efficient way.

StarDust focused on testing collaborative methods and policy support to five transnational innovation partnerships. Through the project, challenge-driven and macro-regional smart specialisation approach was tested in transnational pilot projects. “Strong together” presents not just the best success stories and results from this 3-years collaboration. It gives also essential policy recommendation drawn from the operational work both for the macro-regional funding and governance structures. We show the value of a common policy framework – which is realised in the BSR Stars programme – that has acted as a bridge-builder and transnational catalyser for innovation activities.

The new dormitory of Klaipeda University is a demonstration of sustainable building according to Longlife benchmarks in the BSR and for study visits. The project was prepared with the main stage project Longlife and implemented with a transnational team in Klaipeda, Lithuania. In the middle of august the facade was completed with all windows. Until the end of 2015 the construction will be finalized.

This brochure summarizes the experience gained in the EU project Urban Creative Poles carried out from 2010 until 2013 in five medium sized cities in the Baltic Sea Region.
