Introduction to the Fruit Basket, project Output Library

The Baltic Sea Region (BSR) Programme 2007-2013 financed in total 90 transnational cooperation projects covering a wide scope of themes. In order to share the work done with you, the Programme has created this online basket of projects – a Fruit Basket if you will (formally called the Output Library).

The Fruit Basket may be used for diverse purposes. For example, when you have a specific challenge in your area with regard to transport, you may want to find out what has been done previously in that area and you will most likely find useful documents that would increase your knowledge in the specific topic. Take your pick!

Sustainable Management of Contaminated Sediments - Guideline
Date:
Dec 2012
URL:
Description:
The guideline has a sustainability approach for management of contaminated sediments in dredging projects. It covers the whole process from identifying the need of dredging to the serviceability state after handling of the dredged sediments, i.e. “what to do” and give support to decisions to be made at different times throughout the whole process, i.e. “how to do”. This “how to do” tool-box comprises eleven parts related to the different decision situations during the life time of a project, all the way from sampling and testing of sediments to be dredged to monitoring of a completed construction. Investments in upgrading Vecauce farm biogas plant for improved environmental effect (Latvia)
Date:
Sep 2014
URL:
Description:
Improvements in the Vecauce farm biogas plant in Latvia in digestate storage capacity, slurry spreading and biomass pre-treatment and feeding bring about • improved energy yield due to better fermentation of solid substrates; • cleaner waters and better soils from using perennial grasses instead of maize silage; • increased nutrient recycling and more efficient organic fertilization Vecauce is a research and training farm of the Latvian University of Agriculture and also welcomes delegations of farmers and policy makers to study visits.

Report on the effects of ship emissions in the Baltic Sea and the North Sea
Date:
Apr 2013
URL:
Description:
Regional model calculations focusing on the effects of ship emissions in the Baltic and North Sea have been made. The calculations show that per person an additional 0.1 - 0.2 years of life lost is estimated in areas close to the major ship tracks with present emission levels. An increase in ship activity has resulted in higher emissions and subsequently air concentrations of in particular NOx, especially in and around several major ports.

Environmental Port Index
Date:
Mar 2013
URL:
Description:
One way for a port to benchmark its environmental performance is to take part in an index. An environmental index could help port management to understand which environmental issues to concentrate on and is a way to educate the staff on environmetnal issues related to port activities. It could also be seen as a marketing tool. The components of the CLEANSHIP proposed Environmental Port Index for the Baltic Sea Region includes three categories: 1) the port's Environmental Management Syste 2) measures of environmental condition in the port 3) shipping environmental aspect.
